I enjoyed talking to ABC15 Arizona's meteorologistJorge Torres, CBMabout FIDO's water replenishment work with Microsoft in #Arizona and elsewhere around the world. https://lnkd.in/ebzcVHMuIt's crucial to think about the impact AI is having on the planet but remember that on balance AI's impact should be more good than bad.Take water. Thanks to LLMs like ChatGPT AI has significantly increased the need for water cooling in data centres, but... FIDO AI is counteracting that impact in London, Mexico and Arizona by working with both corporates and utilities to reduce the amount of water being lost from the networks supplying those centres.FIDO finds hidden water leaks responsible for the loss of an average 30% of world water lost from community pipeline networks. Our unique AI finds the largest and locates them exactly so engineers fix the biggest faster.University of California researchers already agree that fixing leaks is the best way for many utilities to find extra water, and because it's already sourced, pumped and treated it saves on carbon emissions too:https://lnkd.in/ek8cnafSFIDO AI is the engine behind a new catalytic community of corporates, utilities and other stakeholders called Water United, which is trying to reverse decades of over abstraction in the Colorado river basin. Microsoft is a founding member. We're not limited to data companies or global corporations. Anyone can join. If you're a business or utility in the basin get in touch and get on board. And Jorge, if you'd like to do a piece on our massive effort, please get in touch!https://lnkd.in/eayn42-Y#Innovation #climatechange #AI #Water#WaterAction #globalcollaboration #SDG6 #waterpositivity #waterrestoration #waterreplenishment #waterunited #ESG #sustainability

🚀🌵💧 Arizona's water resources are feeling the heat as AI and data center operations expand! Microsoft, a key player in this tech wave and a partner to OpenAI, is under the spotlight for its data centers' thirst, with one facility expected to gulp down 56 million gallons of water yearly - that's a lot for a desert state facing its hottest summer and severe droughts! 😲💻🌞But, there's a silver lining! 🌥️👩💼🔍 Arizona is tapping into AI for smarter water management. From Phoenix's AI-enhanced wastewater treatment to algorithms optimizing water use in buildings, technology is playing a dual role in both challenging and championing water conservation efforts. 🚿🤖💡Moreover, cities like Phoenix are not just sitting back; they're actively working towards a sustainable 100-year water supply, with 97% of wastewater getting a second life in various uses. And with tech giants like Microsoft pledging to go carbon-negative and water-positive, the future looks promising. 🌱🔄💦In essence, while AI's growth poses challenges, it's also part of the solution, showcasing the complex dance between technological advancements and environmental stewardship in Arizona. 🤹♂️🌍📈 #AI #WaterConservation #Sustainability #Arizona #TechForGood https://lnkd.in/gjVK4FUi
